On Wednesday 30th August 2023, the Acting Principal of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG), Mrs. Elvira Bobson-Kamara, hand over her office to the newly appointed Principal, Madam Gloria Macfoy, at a meeting held at the school’s staff room at Hannah Benka-Coker Street, Freetown.
During the ceremony, the Acting Board Chair, Madam Nanette Thomas, welcomed old pupils, Principal and Vice of the Junior School, staffs, teachers as well as journalists. She thanked the outgoing Principal, Madam Bobson-Kamara for the 18 years of service and congratulated the newly appointed Principal, Madam Macfoy. She Furthered that it is indeed a great day, new dawn and a new Era for the School. As they are there in person in the handing over ceremony, and expressed expectation for the outgoing Principal to handover all the necessary documents, which included the last Audit report, last school budget, all appointments made for staffs, Receipts for all expenditure for the following year, details about all staffs, their qualifications and their years of teaching in the school, names of teachers from government payroll and the subject they teach, as well as class list and registers, material resources in her possession, Reports of all donations to the School for the Academic year, to the newly appointed Principal.
She also mentioned that they are going to rebuild the legacy as well as the future of the School. She gave advice to both outgoing and newly appointed Principals that they are being magnanimous and that there should be no time for revenge, for there are so many waters that have passed under the bridge, but that they should work together as proud FSSGians to rebuild the school and take it back to where it was when Mrs Cassandra Gerber led the School. She would take over from the 1st of September 2023 as the Principal, as the Board would be visiting to check the premises of the School, adding that she has a lot to do like taking care of the parking lot ASAP. She should make sure they remove all old cars from the compound, as failing to do so, they will be left with no alternative but to call the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRA) to do so. She continued that she should ensure not to admit any student that does not have the mark to enter the School, as they are tired of hearing news all over that FSSG is a low grade School. She should also ensure that the students abide by the rules and regulations of the School.
Mrs Elvira Bobson-Kamara mentioned that it not an easy journey, as she faced a lot of challenges along the way, but with her team, they were able to conquer and change the grades, adding that indeed, God gave them the strength to run the Administration. She Furthered thanked the stakeholders and God for the 18 years in the Administration, stressing that no matter, He gave her strength and came out strong. She maintained that FSSG is at the stage where it has moved to a single shift, adding that it was really a tough struggle for her, and referring to the various items Madam Nanette had highlighted, she said that they are all in her possession and she is ready to hand them over to the newly appointed Principal, Madam Macfoy. She wished her well and congratulated her on her new appointed position.
In her response, Madam Gloria Macfoy thanked everyone for their tremendous support to her, stating that she is excited for her new position, stressing that indeed it is a Blessing. She referred to the job ahead as difficult, but is doable, and expressed thanks to the stakeholders for their contribution, as that has added to her learning, and assured everyone that for her orientation, she is coming with an open mind and a team to be able to divide the work load and multiply the effort and increase the results, furthering that they would need help from stakeholders this time.
She assured that with her team, she would bring the school to the level that everyone aspires, and by the Grace of God, she would build a legacy that would yield good fruit.
