The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has outlined its FY2027 budget priorities during the ongoing Bilateral Budget Discussions with the Ministry of Finance at the Miatta Civic Centre.
The Ministry highlighted key FY2025 achievements, including the development of 5,000 hectares of Inland Valley Swamps, cultivation of 24,295 hectares of IVS, Boliland and Riverine areas across 15 districts, production of 2,000 metric tonnes of certified seeds, rehabilitation of 420 kilometres of feeder roads, and the installation of 10 new rice mills.
For FY2027, the Ministry’s recurrent budget is projected at NLe110.56 million, rising to NLe115.53 million in 2028 and NLe123.04 million in 2029.
The Ministry said the funding will support agricultural production, mechanisation and irrigation, improved seed and input systems, agricultural financing, processing, climate-smart agriculture, and programmes targeting women and youth.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Musa Kpaka, defended the Ministry’s priorities, stressing the need for adequate resources to sustain progress and advance the Government’s Feed Salone agricultural transformation agenda.
