Brima Koroma Outlines Petroleum Sector Plans
Brima Baluwa Koroma has officially taken up his position as the new Director General of the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), sharing his appreciation for the opportunity and setting out his plans for the future of the institution.
In his statement, Koroma described the appointment as a major moment in his professional life, and spoke of the responsibilities that come with it. He credited his progress to God’s guidance, tracing his journey from his early career days as a management trainee at Standard Chartered Bank back in 2001.
He thanked President Julius Maada Bio for placing trust in him, and pledged not to take that trust lightly. Koroma said he intends to build on the progress already made by the NPRA, while also pushing forward with reforms that focus on the public good.
Among his key goals is the transformation of Sierra Leone’s downstream petroleum sector into a hub that can serve the wider region. He said the new leadership role gives him and his team the push to work harder toward this ambition.
Koroma also stressed the importance of increasing government involvement in the petroleum value chain. He highlighted plans around Sierra Petroleum Company, a state-aligned trading entity, as part of a broader effort to support open-market principles within the sector.
He expressed appreciation to the staff of NPRA, describing them as a dependable and committed team. He also acknowledged the strong support of his family throughout his journey. In addition, he extended thanks to friends and supporters both at home and abroad.
Looking ahead, Koroma said he remains committed to fostering a working culture at NPRA that values collaboration, transparency, fairness, and market-driven growth.
