Former President Koroma Admonishes African Elders To Persevere

The Former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, participated at the GJF Democracy dialogue held in Yenegoa, Nigeria on Friday. The event, which is the foundation’s flagship programme, brings together key stakeholders in Africa to chart a pathway to the challenges of democracy, and provide solutions to the development issues of the continent. The theme of the dialogue underscores the fact that participants need to see democracy beyond elections, and critically look at the nature of elections and what happens after elections by way of governance.

Sharing his experience after the event, Koroma wrote, “The GJF Democracy Dialogue in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, deals with Democracy, development, and good governance as pillars of prosperity.

He also advised that we must make sure to preserve democracy: “Despite setbacks, we must persevere,” he said.

Moving on, he expressed appreciation to Goodluck Jonathan, GEJ Foundation and FCM Jallow for their commitment, citing that democracy is a journey not a destination.

“A heartfelt appreciation to HE Goodluck Jonathan and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation for their unwavering commitment to our region’s democratic journey. Their tireless efforts resonate deeply, as we collectively strive for a stable and prosperous future. Despite recent setbacks, we must not give up hope. We must never forget that democracy is a journey and not a destination,” said Former President Koroma.
