Umaru Napoleon Koroma Presides Over SLPP Canada Region Inauguration

The two-term National Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, has reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to inclusive governance, national development, and democratic consolidation, as he presided over the inauguration of the SLPP Canada Region, urging members of the diaspora to remain resolute in advancing the Party’s vision and development agenda.

The inauguration ceremony, which brought together party executives, supporters, and members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora in Canada, underscored the SLPP’s continued efforts to strengthen its international structures and deepen engagement with Sierra Leoneans abroad as key stakeholders in national development.

In his keynote address, Koroma commended the Canada Region for its steadfast loyalty, organisational discipline, and unwavering support for the Sierra Leone People’s Party. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the diaspora towards the Government’s flagship Human Capital Development Programme, highlighting interventions in education, agriculture, community development, and social cohesion, as tangible demonstrations of the diaspora’s commitment to Sierra Leone’s progress.

Koroma stated that under the visionary leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, Sierra Leone has witnessed far-reaching governance reforms, strategic investments in human capital, expanded infrastructure, strengthened democratic institutions, and policies aimed at promoting inclusive economic growth and sustainable national development. He noted that these achievements have positioned the country on a stronger developmental trajectory, while laying a solid foundation for continued national transformation.

Expressing confidence in the future of the ruling party, Koroma affirmed that the SLPP remains firmly positioned to retain the confidence and mandate of the Sierra Leonean people. He attributed this optimism to the Government’s demonstrable record of delivery, people-centred policies, and unwavering commitment to improving the living standards of citizens across the country.

He concluded by reaffirming the Party’s enduring philosophy of “One Country, One People,” describing it as the cornerstone of the SLPP’s governance agenda. He emphasised that the principle continues to guide the equitable distribution of national resources, the promotion of national unity, and the creation of equal opportunities for all Sierra Leoneans, irrespective of region, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

Koroma called on members of the SLPP Canada Region to remain united, uphold the Party’s core values, and continue serving as ambassadors of the Party and Sierra Leone, while supporting the Government’s vision of building a prosperous, peaceful, and inclusive nation.
