SLRSA Boss Seeks Technical Collaboration With Chinese Embassy

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has deepened its engagement with the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, as the two countries prepare to mark the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Executive Director of SLRSA, James Baggie Bio, met with Deputy Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhang Dianbin, to discuss potential collaborations aimed at enhancing the nation’s road safety sector.

During the meeting, Mr. Bio highlighted the increasing number of Chinese-manufactured vehicles entering Sierra Leone. While recognizing the positive impact of Chinese automobile manufacturers on the country’s transport sector, he stressed the urgent need for specialized training for SLRSA vehicle examiners. Such capacity-building initiatives, he noted, would strengthen the Authority’s technical expertise and facilitate effective technology transfer, enabling more efficient inspection and regulation of modern vehicle technologies.

In response, Ambassador Zhang reaffirmed the strong and longstanding ties between China and Sierra Leone, noting the robust cooperation in politics, trade, education, infrastructure, and economic development over the past 55 years. He welcomed the proposal for technical training for SLRSA staff and assured that he would engage authorities in Beijing to explore possible support, particularly in areas of staff development and logistical assistance.

Mr. Bio expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy and the Government of China for their continued support, particularly through in-service training opportunities that have helped strengthen the Authority’s institutional capacity and operational efficiency.
