Sella Limba Women Commit To Fully Embrace Agriculture

The Sella Icon For Women’s Empowerment and International Women For Peace and Development has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with the launching of the Organisation at the Galaxy Hall in Kamakwie Town.

The Organisation was launched by Hon Al-Sankoh-Conteh. In his keynote address, he lauded the resilience and determination of the women of Sella Limba and their contributions towards agriculture and culture. He hailed the effort of Hon Marie Conteh-Jalloh for always promoting the interest of the women in Sella Limba.

Hon Al-Sankoh-Conteh elaborated on the significance of the International Women’s Day celebration, which he said was first proposed to be celebrated by Clara Zetkin in 1910, during the International Conference for Women in Copenhagen. The trust of the conference was to allow women to vote and hold important positions in government.

He noted that the importance of International Women’s Day is to empower women by protecting and defending their rights, giving them access to good education, life skills, jobs and doing business.

In her statement, Madam Mariama Leigh called on women to stand up for their rights, as the gender equality and empowerment law has espoused the empowerment and rights of women. She said the Organisation would look after the welfare of women in Sella, as the vulnerability among women is high.

The International Women’s Day in Kamakwie commenced with a match pass and climaxed with the announcement of awards to personalities that have helped to promote women and youths in Sella Limba.

The live broadcast made by Hon Rev. Marie Conteh-Jalloh was explained to the audience. She emphasised the responsibility of He for She, which is a model for promoting the dignity of women for sustainability and resilience.

She called on women to close ranks and seek their interests for peace and stability.
