President Bio Graces Global Health Summit

President Julius Maada Bio has arrived in Brussels ahead of the Global Health Summit, set for June 25. The summit is co-hosted by the European Union, the Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Titled “Global Summit: Health and Prosperity through Immunisation,” the event aims to secure at least US$9 billion from donors to support Gavi’s ambitious plan to protect 500 million children and save 8 million lives between 2026 and 2030. The initiative also seeks to bolster global defenses against pandemics, while addressing the impacts of conflict, climate change, and other crises.

During the summit, President Bio is expected to deliver a keynote address and engage in several bilateral meetings. Gavi has been a crucial partner for Sierra Leone, providing essential support for routine immunization programs, cold chain infrastructure, COVID-19 vaccine access, and the recent deployment of Mpox vaccines.

This summit presents a vital opportunity for President Bio to forge strategic partnerships, advocate for Sierra Leone’s health priorities, and secure support to enhance healthcare infrastructure and early warning systems, ultimately improving the well-being of Sierra Leone’s citizens.
