Opposition APC to stage Nationwide Protest against Bio’s SLPP Govt

The All People’s Congress (APC) has issued a strong warning over the recent appointment of Edmond Sylvester Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), threatening to organize a peaceful nationwide protest if he remains in office.

Speaking during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Brookfields, Freetown, on March 18, 2026, the APC’s National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, said the party would not “lend legitimacy to a broken system.” He, however, noted that the APC remains open to dialogue, provided it is conducted in good faith.
The APC argues that the decision undermines public confidence in the electoral process, raising concerns about transparency and trust ahead of future elections.
The party’s stance signals increasing political tension in Sierra Leone, with observers calling for urgent engagement among political actors to safeguard the credibility of the country’s democratic institutions.
