SLAJ President Recalls Efforts At Gender Equality
On International Women’s Day, the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, reaffirmed his commitment to gender equality and inclusive leadership within the association. In his statement, Nasralla emphasized the crucial role of female journalists in shaping the future of the profession, and encouraged them to step forward and contest leadership positions as the association approaches its elections.
“As we approach our elections, I encourage female journalists to step forward and contest for leadership positions. Your voices, skills, and perspectives are essential in shaping the future of our profession,” he stated. He highlighted the significance of diverse leadership in fostering transparent electoral process that provides a level playing field for all candidates, regardless of gender. He reiterated that SLAJ remains a platform where every journalist can aspire, lead, and thrive, reinforcing the association’s core values of democracy, press freedom, and inclusivity. Urging all members to support and uplift one another, he affirmed that the association must continue to break barriers that hinder gender equality in the media industry.
Reflecting on his tenure as President, Nasralla expressed gratitude for the support he has received from colleagues and stakeholders. He acknowledged the progress made in promoting gender equality within the association, but recognized that more work remains to be done. As his leadership term nears its end, he called on members to remain committed to the cause, ensuring that gender equality is not just an aspiration, but a tangible reality within the media sector.
His remarks on International Women’s Day served as a reminder of the ongoing need to create an inclusive and supportive environment for female journalists in Sierra Leone. With SLAJ’s elections approaching, his call to action resonates as a crucial step towards building a more equitable and representative media landscape.
“It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud of what we have achieved together. But the work is far from over. Let us continue pushing forward until gender equality in the media is no longer just an aspiration, but a reality,” he concluded.
