The Independent Election and Monitoring Oversight Committee (IEMOC) of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, has successfully completed the nomination and interview process for those vying for the highest positions in the party, the National and Deputy Chairman positions.

While the former UK and Ireland Chairman, Batilo Jimmy Songa, and Ing Amara Jambai Kanneh standout as main contenders for the National Chairmanship position, prominent names have emerged for the positions of national deputy, notably Honorable Veronica Kadie Sesay, Mr Alpha Kallon , Robert Kondema Kargbo and the former Resident Minister North, Abu Abu.

Beyond any shred of doubt, the young, dynamic and result oriented Robert Kondema Kargbo, has clearly emerged as the favorite of the grassroot wings of the party as Deputy National Chairman.

During his interview process, the headquarters of the SLPP on Wallace Johnson street hosted a mammoth crowd filled with exuberant youths in support and endorsement of Robert Kargbo.

Mr. Kargbo represents the future of the party, and electing him as Deputy National Chairman will solidify the party’s youth-base not only in the Western Area, but throughout the country.

President Julius Maada Bio has entrusted leadership positions in youths from cabinet, to heads of agencies. Most of them have demonstrated a high sense of responsibility and delivery in their various capacities.

The same synergy should transcend in the body politics within the SLPP.

From all indications, those that have already been elected and those waiting to be elected to serve the SLPP must know that, the task ahead of 2028 is bigger than individual agendas.

The SLPP needs to solidify its presence in every corner and region in the country.

Such can only be done by having people like Robert Kargbo, who has the crowd, the base, and the real approach to solving youth problems.

Robert Kargbo introduced several empowerment schemes for women and youths; such as microcredit and other life-changing initiatives. He has been there for the SLPP when they needed him the most.

Giving him the opportunity to serve as Deputy National Chairman will serve as a step towards bringing the youths onboard national development and decision making process in the party.

He has used his medium ‘Heritage Newspaper’, his resources and presence to promote the agenda of President Bio, and it is very crucial for the SLPP delegates to focus on the strengthening of the youth wing of the party that forms the largest bloc.
