As the 2028 elections draw near, conversations about national leadership are intensifying across both the SLPP and APC. Among the names commanding respect, Dr Ibrahim Bangura stands apart, and for compelling reasons.

A respected lecturer at the University of Sierra Leone, visiting Professor at Oxford University, and consultant to the European Union, ECOWAS, and the African Union on disarmament, demobilization, and peacebuilding, Dr Bangura brings rare credentials. He combines academic rigor with hands-on experience in healing fractured societies.
His vision speaks directly to Sierra Leone’s moment: move beyond the past, mend the wounds inflicted on our people, unite the nation, and position Sierra Leone among the most progressive countries in the subregion. His focus is not on the politics of today alone, but on the Sierra Leone we bequeath to generations yet unborn.
Dr Bangura’s calm, measured demeanor reflects the kind of leadership Sierra Leoneans are yearning for. His style earns respect across the political divide precisely because retribution has no place in his politics. In a post-conflict nation, true leadership demands balance, forging peace, reconciling communities, and rebuilding trust in institutions. Dr Bangura exemplifies this. Even his support base mirrors his temperament: constructive in engagement, disciplined in tone, and free from the rancor and social media escalation that too often define our politics.
At the core of Dr Bangura’s convictions are peacebuilding, democracy, equity, women’s empowerment, and the rule of law. His courage has been tested and proven. His vision is clear: a peaceful, just, and inclusive Sierra Leone where every citizen, regardless of tribe, region, religion, or party affiliation, feels a sense of belonging.
Many Sierra Leoneans see in him the leader they have long prayed for. His message is consistent, patriotic, and free of vendetta. Dr Bangura speaks directly to the youth whose aspirations have been sidelined by old political habits. He believes, rightly, that the future belongs to women and young people the innovators, decision-makers, and policy shapers who will define our next chapter. His ideology centers on an inclusive Sierra Leone that competes with confidence, builds for the future, and refuses to be trapped by the past.
He chooses reconciliation over rhetoric, and the long view of history over the short satisfaction of revenge. He is, in many ways, the gift Sierra Leone must receive and hold firmly.
Dr Bangura understands that vengeance-driven politics leads only to decline. He is ready to unite Sierra Leone and extend development to every corner, in the spirit of bold infrastructure and national outreach seen under former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
For delegates, a vote for Dr Ibrahim Bangura as the APC’s 2028 flagbearer is more than a vote for a man. It is a vote for the APC’s renewal to reposition it as a credible, unifying, and forward-looking force. A vote for him as President is a vote to rescue a nation under strain and restore Sierra Leone’s standing amid growing international attention.
Sierra Leone faces one of its most defining periods. We need leadership of Dr Ibrahim Bangura’s calibre leadership that can redeem the soul of the nation and place it firmly back on the map.
