On Saturday, June 27, the Leader of the DIB Movement and leading APC flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura joined hundreds for Environmental Walk 2026 from Regent to Tacugama. Organised by his former students, he, along with each of the hundreds who joined him, planted a tree as a symbolic gesture of his strong position on environmental protection.
“Protecting nature is our responsibility for a better climate and for a better future,” he said.
This event has been widely acclaimed by the public as a welcoming and timely symbolic message in view of the rampant deforestation being done to Freetown’s hillsides and the devastating effect it’s having on the people and the landscape of Sierra Leone’s capital.
Every now and then, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura is drawing commendations from different shades of opinion. Last week, one of Sierra Leone’s most critical political and media personalities, Dr. Sylvia Byden, commended his maturity and foresight following Dr. Ibrahim Bangura’s thoughtfulness to attend the late Honourable Justice Mrs. Nyawo Finda Matturi Jones’ funeral service.
”This DIB is far more mature than I had assumed. I will start paying closer attention to him henceforth. I am truly impressed,” she said.
Regarding the Saturday 27 June ‘Environmental Awareness’, Ambassador Omrie Golley, a competitor in the race for the APC leadership, said this:
”A very good initiative by Dr Bangura and his team in commemorating and supporting Environmental Awareness. Well done!”
It’s heart-warming for Sierra Leone, particularly in view of the country’s existing deep regional, ethnic divisions and toxic politics, for a unifying leader to emerge. With his unforgettable slogan to heal, unite and build, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has clearly marked himself out as that leader who is capable to accommodate the country’s diverse interests. Through his public statements and actions, he has shown incomparable antecedents of the much needed pacifier leader Sierra Leone is clamouring for.
As we approach our Constituency elections, the DIB Movement will continue to appeal to the delegates and APC supporters to bear in mind these important issues of healing, unifying and building our beloved party and country.
Before the wider Sierra Leonean population could elect him, we in the APC must first rise to the challenge of presenting to the nation the candidate it is already warming up to by electing Dr. IBRAHIM BANGURA
