Demolition Of Beach Bars Exacerbate Youth Unemployment

By Abdul Bero Kamara ( Chief)

President Bio’s government has come under fire for its actions that have destroyed business properties worth thousands of dollars, leaving thousands of youths jobless.

The ongoing demolishing of bars at the Lumley-Aberdeen beach area has not only displaced hard-working Sierra Leoneans, but has also created a significant impact on the employment opportunities for hundreds of youths across Freetown.

Many of these businesses have been operating for over five years, providing vital employment opportunities for the youths in Freetown. These establishments were not only contributing to the local economy through tax payments, but also playing a crucial role in addressing the unemployment issue in the area.

Critics argue that while it may be necessary for the government to regulate and enforce building codes, the abrupt demolition of these long-standing businesses raises questions about the lack of foresight and planning on the part of the authorities.

The sudden destruction of these investments has not only caused financial losses for business owners, but has also shattered the hopes and livelihoods of many employees who depended on these establishments for their income.

What is particularly concerning is the government’s apparent inability to create a conducive environment for business growth, while simultaneously failing to provide alternative employment opportunities for the youths, despite all the promises during the 2018 & 2023 campaigns.

.Despite President Bio’s pledges to prioritize job creation and support for the youths, the recent events at Lumley-Aberdeen paint a starkly different picture.

The actions of the government have not only undermined the trust and confidence of the people in its ability to support economic development, but have also highlighted the disconnect between its promises and actions.
