Alhaji Mohamed Gento Kamara Receives Rousing Welcome Home from Hajj

Community stakeholders, youths, and sympathizers gathered in their hundreds at Mustaphan Masjid Mosque, Kamanda Farm, PWD, Kissy Bypass Road, on Friday, June 19, 2026, to welcome Alhaji Mohamed Gento Kamara following his return from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Alhaji Gento Kamara joined thousands of worshippers for Jumu’ah prayers in a powerful display of faith, unity, and community spirit. His arrival drew an unprecedented crowd of supporters, including imams, community elders, and children from PWD and surrounding areas.
Part of 1.7 Million Pilgrims
According to Saudi authorities, a total of 1,707,301 Muslims performed the 2026 Hajj — 893,396 men and 813,905 women. The majority were international pilgrims, with over 1.5 million traveling from abroad, including Sierra Leoneans.
Alhaji Gento Kamara was among the Sierra Leonean contingent who completed the sacred pilgrimage in the Islamic year 1447 AH.
Warm Reception at Mustaphan Masjid
Upon his arrival, Alhaji Gento Kamara was warmly received by the Chief Imam and the congregation. The Imam expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that his presence uplifted the community and fostered unity among worshippers.
“Many embraced him not just as a political figure, but as a brother in Islam,” said a community member. “His humility during prayers reflected true Taqwa — God-consciousness.”
Message of Unity and Sadaqah Jariyah
After the Khutbah, Alhaji Gento Kamara delivered a brief address, emphasizing unity, humility, and moral responsibility. “Islam is grounded in uplifting our people,” he told the congregation.
In a gesture of Ikhlas and generosity, he pledged substantial support toward the development of Mustaphan Masjid Mosque. The contribution, described as Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity), will fund infrastructure upgrades, outreach programs, and community services for Kamanda Farm and PWD residents.
Walk Through the Community
Following prayers, Alhaji Gento Kamara walked through Blackhall Road, PWD, and Kissy Bypass Road, accompanied by youths, imams, and stakeholders including Alex Alim Bangura, popularly known as “Attouga.” A community stakeholder, Hundreds escorted him to his childhood home at No. 6 Kissy Bypass Road, where refreshments were served.
Throughout the walk, he listened to the concerns of young people, reaffirming his commitment to addressing their social and economic challenges. Many praised his accessible leadership style and direct engagement with citizens.

The gathering underscored the role of faith and community in shaping Sierra Leone’s social landscape. Alhaji Gento Kamara’s presence, philanthropy, and message of unity offered residents a renewed sense of hope.
