On Thursday, February 5, 2025, African Global Logistics (AGL) Sierra Leone donated school materials worth NLe 444,825 to 1,400 pupils from three communities: Moa Wharf, Seaside, and Matheagba Village in Karene District. The donation ceremony was held at the FTL Conference Hall.

The items distributed included school bags, 200-page notebooks, 80-page exercise books, erasers, geometry sets, ledger books, Oxford dictionaries, pencils, blue and black pens, rulers, and scientific calculators.

Speaking at the ceremony, AGL Sub-Regional Manager, Captain Fabjanko Kokan, thanked all stakeholders for attending and emphasized that the donation was part of AGL’s commitment to education.

“Education is the key to success-not only in Sierra Leone but worldwide. Educating children is the best tool for national development. AGL operates in 45 countries with over 25,000 staff, and as a leader in logistics in Africa, we will always take the lead in giving back to the communities we serve,” he said.

Captain Kokan added that supporting children through education helps secure a better future for families, communities, and the nation.

The General Manager of Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL), Mr. Maroun Abi-Aad, described education as the greatest gift any organization can give to children.

“At AGL, we believe that investing in education is investing in the future leaders of tomorrow. This donation is part of our continued effort to support the next generation,” he stated.

AGL’s Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Yvonne Elliott, also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community development.

“As a responsible corporate organization, we recognize the importance of investing in the communities where we operate. This donation of over NLe 440,000 is a symbol of our continued commitment. We hope it eases the burden on parents and motivates students to take their education seriously,” she said.

She urged community leaders to ensure the items reach every household and are used responsibly.

Chairman of Moa Wharf Community, Mr. Abu Bakarr Barrie, thanked AGL for its long-standing support.

“We deeply appreciate AGL for this wonderful opportunity. This is true corporate social responsibility. Many beneficiaries of this program have completed their education and are now successful graduates. We assure AGL that the community will continue to protect the Freetown Terminal and maintain peace, as we are partners in development,” he said.

He concluded by expressing hope for continued collaboration and more opportunities for young people in the community.
