The history of the All People’s Congress (APC) is a rich tapestry woven from the vision, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of generations of distinguished leaders, loyal party faithful, and patriotic Sierra Leoneans who devoted their lives to the growth of the party and the advancement of the nation.

At the forefront of this enduring legacy stands the founding Leader and President of the APC, President Siaka Probyn Stevens, of blessed memory, whose visionary leadership laid the ideological and institutional foundations upon which the party was built. His contribution to Sierra Leone’s political evolution remains indelible. We equally honour President Joseph Saidu Momoh, of blessed memory, whose stewardship of both party and state occupies an important chapter in the nation’s democratic history.
The APC also pays enduring tribute to the countless men and women whose selfless service strengthened the party through successive generations. Among them are former Vice President Sorie Ibrahim (S.I.) Koroma, Edward Mohamed Turay, Abdul Serry-Kamal, Abdul Karim Koroma, and Dr. Abdullai Conteh, all of blessed memory, together with many other distinguished patriots whose invaluable contributions continue to shape the character and resilience of the APC.
Their collective sacrifices constitute a priceless inheritance for today’s membership and future generations. Their lives remind us that political leadership is ultimately measured not by personal ambition, but by service, integrity, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to the common good. We honour their memories with profound gratitude and extend our deepest respect to their families, the APC family, and all Sierra Leoneans who continue to cherish their remarkable legacies.
A Child of the APC Tradition, A Leader for Its Future
It is within this proud political tradition that Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has emerged; a leader whose relationship with the APC is rooted not merely in political affiliation, but in family heritage, lifelong commitment, and sustained service.
Prof. Dr. Bangura is the son of a Senior Comrade, M.L. Bangura, one of the party’s distinguished stalwarts, who served as the inaugural National Secretary General of the APC National Youth League before later assuming the position of National Organising Secretary of the party. Through his father’s exemplary service, Prof. Dr. Bangura was introduced at an early age to the enduring values that have long defined the APC: discipline, loyalty, organisation, sacrifice, and public service.
His connection to the party’s historic leadership is further reflected in his name. He was named after former Vice President Sorie Ibrahim (S.I.) Koroma, one of the APC’s most influential founding-era leaders and a statesman whose legacy continues to inspire generations of party members.
Yet, Prof. Dr. Bangura’s political journey has never rested solely on family pedigree or historical association. Rather, it has been shaped by personal initiative, leadership, and a consistent record of service.
As a secondary school student in the mid-1990s, he founded The Rising Sun of APC, demonstrating an early passion for political participation and youth mobilisation. While pursuing higher education at Fourah Bay College, he expanded that commitment by establishing the APC Students Association, the organisation that has since evolved into today’s National Union of APC Students (NUAS), where he served as its founding President.
Beyond partisan politics, Prof. Dr. Bangura has distinguished himself as an accomplished academic, governance specialist, peace-building practitioner, and public policy expert. Throughout his career, he has consistently combined intellectual leadership with practical engagement in national development, democratic governance, and conflict resolution. His progression from youth organiser to respected scholar and national leadership aspirant reflects a lifelong commitment to service, informed by knowledge, experience, and an abiding belief in Sierra Leone’s democratic future.
Bridging the APC’s Proud Heritage with Its Future Aspirations
As the APC prepares to chart its next chapter, delegates and party members are called upon to reflect not only on the challenges ahead, but also on the kind of leadership required to navigate them successfully.
Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bangura represents a rare blend of continuity and renewal. He embodies the enduring values inherited from the party’s founding generation while offering the vision, competence, and innovative leadership necessary to respond to the demands of a changing political landscape.
His story is therefore more than a reflection of where he comes from. It is a testament to the principles he has embraced, the institutions he has helped to build, the leadership he has demonstrated over several decades, and the service he continues to offer to the APC and to Sierra Leone.
For many within the APC, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bangura stands as a leader shaped by the party’s proud traditions, guided by its enduring ideals, and committed to securing its future through principled, inclusive, and transformative leadership.
