“WE ARE READY TO JOIN DR. SAMURA KAMARA’S NEW PARTY TO VICTORY IF APC ISOLATES HIM”

APC Grassroots Vow

Thousands, if not millions, of All People’s Congress (APC) hierarchy and grassroots supporters across Sierra Leone and in the diaspora have vowed to support the party’s 2018 and 2023 Presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, if the APC leadership continues with its moves to isolate him-a grassroots favorite.

Supporters have urged Dr. Samura Kamara to form a new political party if he is neglected by the APC leadership. Kamara’s supporters caution the APC to reconsider sidelining him, warning that it may lead to extended opposition and strengthen the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) to take power in 2028 again.

Political analysts suggest that Dr. Samura Kamara could become the first democratically elected President of Sierra Leone under a new political party formed independently of the APC or SLPP, citing his strong leadership, peaceful approach, and widespread public support.

Despite two controversial losses to President Bio in the 2018 and 2023 elections, Dr. Kamara has shown restraint, avoiding actions that might disrupt national peace. Observers from across the globe noted a lack of credibility and transparency in the 2023 election process and results, but Dr. Kamara chose not to incite unrest, prioritizing the safety of his vulnerable supporters.

A devoted Christian, Dr. Kamara has refused to endorse demonstrations or strikes action, aware of the possible repercussions under the current regime.

Recently, tensions within the APC heightened when the party leadership cited a constitutional clause to declare that Dr. Kamara is no longer its leader. Notably, his two-time running mate, Hon. Chernor Bah, resigned from his executive role before this announcement.

Many believe that Kamara’s patient and peaceful approach has only strengthened his political career. Dr. Kamara remains a popular choice, not only to lead the APC, but also as a respected statesman, whose experience in governance has earned him widespread respect.

Dr. Kamara’s 2018 APC nomination in Makeni was decided through a popular vote. Witnesses recall that he was chosen by delegates, and the vote count was conducted openly. Although the 2023 election justice struggle continues, Dr. Kamara’s commitment to peaceful advocacy has been widely praised.

Some APC members are urging the party to reconsider its stance, warning that pushing Dr. Kamara to exit may spur him to form a new political party that could gain substantial support. Many are calling on the APC leadership to allow Dr. Kamara to continue his role in the party. Forming a new party could enable him to challenge both the APC and SLPP, as he remains a favored leader among Sierra Leoneans for his diplomacy and seasoned economic expertise.

APC risks weakening its 2028 election chances if it fails to support Dr. Samura Kamara, who many see as the party’s best hope for victory in the next general election.
