Dr. Walton Gilpin, Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank, has been named Chair of the African Leadership Council for Sierra Leone, marking a significant milestone for the country’s business landscape. The announcement was made during a high-profile ceremony at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex on Sunday, 22nd November 2024, which coincided with Rokel Bank’s 25th Anniversary celebrations.
The festivities included a Thanksgiving Service at Wesley Methodist Church, a lively march-past, and a grand formal dinner, where Dr. Gilpin received the prestigious insignia of office and a Certificate of Listing as one of the top 40 African Caribbean business leaders for 2024. The honors were presented by Samuel Elaikwu, a senior representative of the African Leadership Organisation (ALO).
The African Leadership Council focuses on promoting global opportunities for African nations, and in his new role, Dr. Gilpin will work towards enhancing Sierra Leone’s visibility and potential on the international business front. His appointment represents a crucial step in advancing the country’s business sector, especially in fostering international collaborations.
Dr. Gilpin celebrated as one of the top 25 African Banking Leaders by the Pan-African Leadership Magazine, emphasized that this appointment is a win for Sierra Leone, urging his fellow citizens to embrace unity and avoid divisive discourse. He noted that with this recognition, the nation could capitalize on greater opportunities for economic growth and international partnerships.
Having already received the prestigious US Congressional Award from the State of Carolina in 2023, Dr. Gilpin’s track record positions him as a transformative leader for Sierra Leone’s business sector.
