Banjul, The Gambia –

As part of his ongoing regional tour, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has paid a working visit to his Gambian counterpart, President Adama Barrow, to reaffirm the enduring bonds between the two West African nations.

The meeting highlighted the historical, cultural, and diplomatic ties linking Sierra Leone and The Gambia, both of which share a legacy of trade, migration, and educational exchange dating back to the colonial era.

The two leaders pledged to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, education, security, and governance reforms.

They also renewed their commitment to the objectives of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), stressing the need for collective action in addressing regional challenges such as political instability, economic recovery, and climate resilience.

Sierra Leone and The Gambia have maintained warm diplomatic relations since their respective independences in the 1960s, often collaborating within ECOWAS and other international platforms to promote peace and development.

President Bio’s visit forms part of a broader diplomatic outreach aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s bilateral and multilateral partnerships across West Africa.
