The Director-General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mr Chernor Mahmoud Jalloh, has called on media practitioners to strengthen collaboration with the Trust in promoting public awareness of social security, accountability and effective service delivery.
He made the call on 21 October 2026 during a media cocktail interaction at Country Lodge Hotel, Hill Station, Freetown, where he engaged journalists, media houses and bloggers on NASSIT’s mandate, operations and priorities.

“I have always longed for such an opportunity since I assumed office to interact with the media face-to-face,” Mr Jalloh said, describing the gathering as an opportunity to build relationships and improve public understanding of the NASSIT Scheme.
He explained that NASSIT was established to administer Sierra Leone’s National Pension Scheme, and noted that he had introduced new approaches to improve efficiency, effectiveness and service delivery.
On accountability, Mr Jalloh disclosed that NASSIT had dismissed one manager and two inspectors following a disciplinary investigation that found they had collected money for personal gain. He also pledged to pursue legal action to recover NASSIT lands allegedly encroached upon, and prioritise income-generating investments to strengthen the institution’s financial sustainability.
The Director-General urged the media to educate the public on social security regulations, encourage compliance with the Scheme’s requirements and support efforts to protect NASSIT-owned properties.
He expressed appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio and thanked the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, for collaborating with NASSIT to organise the engagement.
The event also featured remarks by Minister Chernor Bah, who highlighted the importance of effective communication between the government and the public.
