The Ministry of Information and Civic Education commenced Day 2 of The Civic Day series at Unimak Hall Makeni City, Bombali District.
Delivering the welcome address, Chief Jalloh, the Resident Minister of Makeni, officially welcomed all stakeholders, civil servants, and security agencies to Day 2 of the Civic Day Series. He assured everyone of the region’s security and thanked participants for their presence.
Opening by the Chairman
Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chenor Bah, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for honoring his invitation. He announced that the first session would focus on peace and the work of the Tripartite Committee.
Session 1: Peace and the Tripartite Committee
Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, Adviser to the President and Head of Public Sector Reform, explained the role of the Tripartite Committee, emphasizing that all election-related issues are being reviewed to ensure fairness and accountability.
Hon. Zainab Tarawallay (APC MP) reassured citizens that the Tripartite Committee is not here to remove the sitting President, but rather, to review the laws and push for constitutional reforms under Resolution 20 to move the country forward
Community Welfare and Development
Mayor of Makeni addressed key local concerns:
- Roads & Bridges: Called for urgent construction and repairs, as these are critical for food transportation.
- Revenue Generation: Advocated for government subsidies to support local development.
- Waste Management: Requested assistance to improve waste disposal infrastructure.
Minister of Agriculture, Musa Kpaka, praised the government’s effort to engage directly with citizens, and encouraged everyone to participate in farming. He reminded citizens that the government cannot put food on every table, but together they can fight to “Feed Salone.” He also noted that rice prices are currently lower.
Governance & Security Session
Hon. Ibrahim Barrie (APC MP) thanked the government for choosing Makeni for this initiative, and commended the recent release of political prisoners as a step toward national peace and unity.
He highlighted:
- Drug Abuse (Kush): Urged stronger action and praised youth rehabilitation efforts.
- Makeni Government Hospital: Requested urgent improvements in healthcare services.
Attorney General & Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq. assured citizens that justice is being served, noting that arrests have been made in the case of an armed robbery that killed a Catholic priest. He also spoke about the constitutional review process, reaffirming that “this is our constitution.”
Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd) Morie Lengor, emphasized:
- Security as the foundation of development.
- Ongoing procurement of new buses.
- Tougher measures against drug trafficking and illegal arms.
- Encouragement for all weapon holders to register them.
He praised Makeni as the safest city in Sierra Leone, and envisioned Sierra Leone becoming one of the safest countries globally.
Samuel Ansumana, Director of Communication & PR at Statistics Sierra Leone, led exhibitions and interactive sessions to raise awareness about Census 2026, stressing its importance for planning, equitable resource distribution, and national development.
- Census start date: December 2025
- Budget: $37 million (government has already pledged partial funding)
He urged every citizen to participate and avoid fraud or undercounting.
