At the APC parliamentary Monthly Press Conference held at the APC Headquarters in Freetown on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, Hon. Ben Alpha Mansaray, Member of Parliament for Moyamba District and Deputy Spokesman for the APC Parliamentary Group, voiced strong concerns over the state of the country’s electricity situation. He called for the resignation of the Minister of Energy, pointing out that electricity outages had become more frequent and severe compared to the previous government. Hon. Mansaray reminded the public that the APC had left the country with a stable 24-hour electricity supply in 2018, but under the current administration, the power situation had significantly worsened.

During the press conference, several members of parliament, including Hon. Mahmud Kamara, Hon. Aminata, and Opposition Whip Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, joined in criticizing the government’s handling of the energy crisis. They collectively argued that the current administration had failed to meet the energy needs of the people of Sierra Leone. Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara specifically challenged the Karpowership, accusing it of failing to deliver the promised 60 MW of electricity to Freetown. The MPs also highlighted that the government had abandoned crucial local energy sources, such as the Kingtom power plant and Black Hall power station, which further exacerbated the country’s electricity problems.
