Plans are well in advance for a Turkish Company to start a $50 million dollars oxygen project that will commence operations in Sierra Leone soon, on a 4-acres land at Kerry Town near Waterloo in the Western Rural District.
According to competent sources “installation and operation of gas and liquid oxygen plants with built-operate transfer (BOT) technical agreement contract. Oxygen production and filling plant installation in Sierra Leone. Build-Operate Transfer by model evaluation work contract.”
It need not be overstated that this project will not only create jobs for hundreds of Sierra Leoneans, but also training and other opportunities.
The project is being facilitated by a Lebanese national through the Embassy of Malta in Freetown that has been in the country for long now.
The Minister of Health and team have welcomed the project and are doing all humanly possible to facilitate its speedy commencement, as the benefits of the project to the economy are enormous, with multiplying effects, and therefore cannot be overstated.
Ambassador Solomon Gembeh, former High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Nigeria, and currently Commissioner, National Communications Authority (NaTCA), is also working hard behind the scene to ensure that the project comes to fruition.
It must be noted that the oxygen factory project started since the tenure of the previous administration, but nothing was done to actualize it, inspite of the fact that the Turkish Company that should implement it is a reputable one, with concrete evidence of performance in Sierra Leone.
