In a remarkable show of commitment to grassroots development, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, officially inaugurated the newly constructed Rokrima Bana Health Clinic in Kambia District. The event drew attendance from all walks of life, including the APC Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq, flag bearer aspirants, Members of Parliament, and other prominent dignitaries.
In his keynote address, Chief Whip AKK expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters, particularly those who stood by him during challenging times, when many doubted or distanced themselves from him due to his political standing.
He shared a deeply personal story that inspired the construction of the clinic. During his 2017 campaign, he encountered a pregnant woman at a rally. She later left the gathering to travel to a neighboring village to give birth. Before departing, she told Opposition Chief Whip that if she gave birth to a son, she would name him after him. Tragically, the woman died en route to the distant health facility due to the lack of nearby medical care.
Opposition Chief Whip explained that this heartbreaking incident drove him to act swiftly after winning the election, ensuring that such avoidable tragedies would not recur. The clinic was thus born out of both necessity and compassion.
He emphasized that this new health facility is not just a structure, but one that is fully equipped with standard medical tools, a well-furnished labor room, and sufficient beds to serve patients from the surrounding communities.
Highlighting his broader developmental efforts, he noted that since becoming a Member of Parliament, he has prioritized giving back to society. His initiatives span across healthcare, water supply systems, community town halls, school infrastructure, scholarships, and perimeter fencing for public buildings in various parts of Kambia District.
Addressing the political landscape, Hon. AKK stated that the opposition is resolute in its mission to reclaim governance in the next elections. He warned that any attempts by the ruling SLPP government to undermine the democratic process, as alleged during the 2023 general elections, would not be tolerated.
Also speaking at the event, APC National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq., lauded Opposition Chief Whip for his unwavering dedication, and described him as a beacon of hope for both the party and the nation. He emphasized that the party is vigilant and ready to counter any irregularities that may arise in upcoming national exercises, such as the forthcoming housing and population census.
Lawyer Dumbuya called on all APC flag bearer aspirants to promote unity and prioritize the party’s interests above personal ambition. He also urged the community to take full ownership of the clinic, stressing the importance of maintaining the facility and utilizing it responsibly.
