Freetown, Sierra Leone — A wave of fear and uncertainty has engulfed the Port Loko District following reports that Musa Kargbo, a native of Melekuray Village, has gone missing under troubling circumstances linked to the powerful Poro Secret Society.

That the supreme leader of the Poro Society, has commanded his subjugates to act fast on his command. And as such, this has animmense spiritual and cultural influence in the region.

Thus, family members and religious leaders say Musa, a devout Muslim, refused to undergo the initiation and ceremony, citing his faith as the reason for his decision. His refusal was reportedly regarded by the elders as an act of defiance and sacrilege — a grave taboo that carries deadly consequences within their customs.
Sources close to the family revealed that, around 6 am onAugust, 21st s2025 elders of the Poro Society officially declared Musa “wanted”, a pronouncement traditionally considered a death sentence. Days later, he reportedly fled Melekuray and nearby communities in fear for his life.
Musa was last seen on August 31st, 2025, around the Melekurayaxis. Since then, his whereabouts remain unknown, leaving his relatives and friends deeply worried.
“We have not heard from Musa since that day,” a family member lamented. “We are living in constant fear. We just want him to be safe, wherever he is.”
The atmosphere in parts of Port Loko has become tense, with residents expressing fear over secret movements and nighttime gatherings believed to be related to the search for Musa. Some locals describe the situation as “spiritually charged and dangerous,” warning that even those associated with Musa may also be at risk.
Religious leaders in the district have condemned the threats, urging traditional societies to respect freedom of belief and individual conscience. They have called on the authorities to intervene promptly to prevent further unrest.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Police and local authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, though mounting calls continue for an urgent investigation into Musa’s disappearance.
Musa Kargbo’s case has since become a powerful symbol of the growing tension between traditional customs and modern religious convictions — a sensitive cultural divide that continues to challenge harmony in many communities across Sierra Leone.
For now, his family holds on to hope that he is alive and safe — even as fear and uncertainty weigh heavily on the people of Melekuray.
