“I want to reaffirm my firm commitment to the ideals and values of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). My decision to seek the party’s leadership stems from my desire to build on the achievements of President Julius Maada Bio, while working with every member of the party to secure a brighter future for our people.” Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Julius Fofanah Sandy, informed stakeholders of the SLPP about his intension to seek the party’s leadership, and in the process, become its Presidential Flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
He made the disclosure recently at the party’s national headquarters in Freetown during which event he informed the party’s National Chairman and Executive, the Elders’ Council and other distinguished party stakeholders about the significance of unity, discipline and collective responsibility in strengthening and consolidating the gains the party have already made over the years.
Dr. Sandy underscored that leadership is about selfless service, honesty, inclusiveness, in addition to the ability to unite people around a common national vision, and appealed to all party members and sympathizers nationwide to remain united and focused on the shared objective of ensuring the continued success of the party, reiterating the need for respect and commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law, human rights and dignity.
Earlier, the former Secretary to the President and devoted Christian of the United Methodist Church denomination was warmly welcomed and commended by stakeholders for this declaration and engagement with the party hierarchy through the right channels, as various stakeholders encouraged him to conduct his campaigns peacefully, respectfully and in the spirit of comradeship.
With his wealth of experience in the civil service, diplomacy and governance, Dr. Julius Sandy is confident that with the support of members of the party and Sierra Leoneans in general, he is confident of providing visionary leadership that will consolidate and facilitate national development.
