DIB Shows Solidarity with Lawyers at Supreme Court Hearing

Dr Ibrahim Bangura’s visit to the Supreme Court on 7th October 2026, was more than a gesture of solidarity. His presence, warm engagement, and handshake with the lawyers involved in this historic constitutional matter sent a simple but powerful message: at defining moments in a nation’s life, leadership must show up.

This is no ordinary moment for Sierra Leone. The constitutional questions now before the Court reach far beyond the interests of any individual, political party or generation. Whatever emerges from these deliberations could shape our democracy and constitutional order for decades and affect generations yet unborn.

That is why solidarity with those carrying the enormous responsibility of arguing these matters before the Court is important. It recognises the weight of the moment and the fundamental role of the rule of law in safeguarding our democracy.

Dr Bangura has consistently maintained one overriding principle: Sierra Leone must come first. Whatever our political differences, whatever our individual interests, our actions at moments such as this must ultimately be judged by what they mean for the peace, stability, democracy and future of our country.

His presence therefore reflected something deeper:  leadership, statesmanship and an understanding of the historic moment confronting our nation. It also speaks directly to the philosophy behind his Heal. Unite. Build. agenda: healing our divisions, uniting around the national interest and building institutions capable of serving generations beyond our own.

For APC delegates entrusted with the solemn responsibility of choosing the party’s next flagbearer, moments like these should matter.

The choice before them is not simply about selecting a candidate; it is about identifying the leadership capable of carrying the hopes, dreams and aspirations of Sierra Leoneans into the future.

When that moment comes, let the choice be clear. Let the delegates unite behind Dr Ibrahim Bangura as the APC’s next flagbearer and presidential candidate – and put Sierra Leone first.
