In a warm meeting held at the office of the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, representatives from Care International – USA and Care International – Sierra Leone, accompanied by their Ambassador, Nigel Barker, the renowned international TV show personality, fashion photographer, author, spokesperson, and filmmaker, extended a courtesy visit to First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio. The purpose of the meeting was to provide an update on their upcoming “She Leads the World” campaign, in honour of the International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2023, and to also acquire Her Excellency’s participation in the campaign, as one of the prominent women, whose story will be captured as an agent of change in her community.
The campaign, centred on empowering women in leadership roles, aligns seamlessly with the First Lady’s steadfast commitment to women’s rights and gender equality in Sierra Leone.
During the meeting, Ambassador Nigel Barker outlined their plans to showcase the achievements of remarkable Sierra Leonean women leaders through a compelling photo exhibition and storytelling initiative.
“We are privileged to have the First Lady’s support as we embark on this significant campaign,” expressed Mr. Brima Abdullah Sheriff, the officer in charge of the Country office in Sierra Leone and Liberia for Care International. “By spotlighting the diverse accomplishments of female leaders in our nation, we aim to inspire future generations and advocate for inclusive change.”
The First Lady conveyed her enthusiasm for the initiative, reiterating her unwavering support for endeavours that empower women and girls. “Through the ‘She Leads the World’ campaign, we can highlight the resilience, talent, and leadership potential of Sierra Leonean women,” she asserted. “This campaign provides a valuable platform to amplify their voices and advocate for greater opportunities for all.”
Care International, in collaboration with celebrity photographer and ambassador Nigel Barker, remains confident that this campaign will not only celebrate women leaders, but also ignite crucial conversations about gender equality, inspiring further actions towards a more inclusive future for Sierra Leone.
