Minister Bah Articulates Sierra Leone’s Approach Against Misinformation

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Honourable Chernor Bah, made a strong impression at the opening of the 2026 International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit) in Istanbul, where global leaders, diplomats, and communication experts gathered to address the world’s most pressing information challenges.
In his presentation, Minister Bah outlined Sierra Leone’s proactive approach to combating misinformation, emphasizing transparency, media literacy, and citizen engagement. He stressed that false narratives are a global threat that can erode public trust and weaken the social contract between governments and the people.
Speaking with TRT, AfroTurk TV, and CGTN, he made Sierra Leone’s position on combating misinformation absolutely clear, leaving no room for doubt. He highlighted the government’s initiatives, including partnerships with local media, digital literacy campaigns, and regulatory frameworks aimed at curbing the spread of harmful content online.
Minister Bah also addressed the broader international context, noting the impacts of the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran. “Although Sierra Leone is far from the conflict, we are feeling its effects through rising fuel prices, higher import costs, and pressures on the cost of living,” he said. He added that disruptions to global trade and energy markets are impacting businesses, citizens, and government budgets, reaffirming that the government remains committed to protecting its people and building resilience against these external economic and geopolitical shocks.
The Stratcom 2026 Summit, organized by Türkiye’s Presidency Communications Directorate, brings together ministers, communication experts, and technology innovators from around the world to discuss challenges and opportunities in modern information management.
Minister Bah’s participation signals Sierra Leone’s rising influence on the international stage, demonstrating leadership in promoting credible information and countering the damaging effects of misinformation.
