Alleged Kidnappers released on bail?

Investigation has uncovered that some kidnappers who allegedly kidnapped, robbed, and tortured a young man in Freetown are presently walking the streets as free men, even though they were remanded in prison while the matter was committed to the High Court. It is recalled that the young man in question was allegedly kidnapped on March 29, 2026, by men dressed in military uniforms who reports claimed first tracked the victim’s movements for several days before he was ambushed. With the use of firearms, the attackers allegedly subjected the victim to violence and robbed him of cash and valuables worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The Sierra Leone Police was quick to demonstrate high professionalism in tracking the three suspects. The primary suspects, including a serving police officer, an employee of the National Petroleum Authority, and a private security guard at a Freetown nightclub, were arrested and appeared before a sitting magistrate at the Pademba Road Court. The suspects face multiple criminal charges, including conspiracy, robbery with aggravation, and kidnapping. They were initially denied bail and remanded to the Pademba Road Prison as preliminary investigations continued. Now that the matter has been committed to the High Court, reports claim the three accused persons have been released on bail without the knowledge of the victim, whose life is under serious threat.

Sierra Leone is becoming a kidnapping state, as perpetrators involved in such cases are often close to the powers that be. Public concern remains that the Chief Justice, Hon. Komba Kamanda, must ensure justice is served to protect all citizens. A topical issue for right-thinking Sierra Leoneans is why kidnappers who were supposed to be on remand are walking free while those who commit minor offenses languish in prison.
