Africa Global Logistics (AGL, a company managing the operations of the Freetown Container Terminal, yesterday made a donation of assorted food items worth over five hundred million leones to residents of three different communities within their area of operation.
The donated food items, which comprised bags of rice, onions, gallons of vegetable cooking oil, tea bags, sugar, and many more, were handed to the people of Cline town, Moa Wharf, seaside, and beyond through their representatives.
Addressing the audience, AGL General Manager, Maroun Abi said the most important thing behind the donation was to share and celebrate the spirit of giving during this holy month of Ramadan. ‘‘We hope that this humble donation will provide some support for surrounding communities,’’ he said.
AGL Country Manager, Captain Fabjanko Kokan assured the community of his company’s support in meeting events like this. He added that such a gesture from his company will continue in the name of oneness and development. He assured the people to feel relaxed that AGL is there for them and will continue to do great things that will make them happy. Captain Kokan added that all he want to see is how to help people. ‘’That’s why I always appealed during the Holy Month of Ramadan that we help the people, and I hope this will inspire others to do the same,’’ he advised.
Lamin Koroma from the seaside community expressed appreciation to AGL for the wonderful donation. He said support like this has been ongoing, and for that, pray that AGL gets the reward and blessings of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Chairman Barrie from Moa Wharf Community buttressed the statement of the previous speaker and expressed thanks and appreciation on behalf of his community to AGL. He prayed that AGL continue to enjoy a peaceful, cordial working environment as their support to them is always lucrative.
Director of Technical Services at the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority, Eustace Rogers, who spoke on behalf of the SLPHA Boss Yankuba Askia Bio, said he was making a statement representing his boss, who would have loved to be part of the ceremony. He added that his boss, Yankuba Bio, gave him a special message for the AGL Country Manager in the person of Captain Fabjanko Kokan for their support and good work in the port. Rogers added that AGL has been doing extremely well for which they at port fully appreciate them.
Other speakers who made meaningful statements and contributions in appreciation of the gesture by AGL are Hon. Mariama Bangura, Councillor Abubakarr Tejan Jalloh, Ferdinand Valentine of the Sierra Leone Dock Workers Union, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul James.
