“Five days may pass, but conviction does not fade. Difficult circumstances may test our resolve, but they cannot extinguish our hope for justice, constitutionality, and the rule of law”.

These are the words and convictions of a man who remains resolute, determined, and committed to defending, upholding, and protecting the Constitution of Sierra Leone. His unwavering belief in constitutionality and the rule of law continues to define his position, even in the face of personal adversity.

As unique as my previous visits may have been, today’s visit was particularly significant. For the first time since his detention, I found the courage to look my boss directly in the face and ask him a question that had weighed heavily on my mind:

”Do you still believe in the justice system of Sierra Leone?”

His response was as firm and reassuring as ever. Without wavering in his conviction, he reaffirmed his faith in the justice system of Sierra Leone, his commitment to constitutionality, and his determination to stand for the rule of law.

This response is a powerful reminder that the struggle for justice requires patience, courage, and an unwavering belief in the institutions and principles upon which Sierra Leone is founded.

Five days behind bars have not diminished his conviction. His circumstances may have changed, but his principles remain steadfast.

As his mentee, I left today’s visit with renewed strength and a deeper appreciation of what it means to stand firmly for one’s beliefs. His courage continues to inspire me, and his faith in justice challenges us all to reflect on our own commitment to the Constitution and the future of our beloved country.

Sierra Leone belongs to all of us. The Constitution belongs to all of us. And the responsibility to uphold the rule of law rests upon every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, social standing, or position in society.
