President Julius Maada Bio has announced a major wave of appointments to key government ministries and state institutions, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public sector leadership, improve service delivery and advance national development priorities.
The new appointments were contained in a public notice issued by State House on Monday, 21 July 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune. Several of the appointments are subject to parliamentary approval before the nominees can officially assume their respective offices.
According to State House, the appointments form part of government’s broader strategy to enhance institutional effectiveness and ensure that critical sectors are led by individuals capable of driving improved performance and delivering on national commitments.
In the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Isata Marah has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Finance II, bringing additional leadership support to a ministry responsible for managing the country’s economic policies, public finances and fiscal reforms.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, a central pillar of the government’s food security and economic transformation agenda, will also receive new leadership support through the appointment of two deputy ministers. Dr. Isata Kamanda has been appointed Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security I, while Ing. Bryan Smart-Kanu has been named Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security II.
The appointments come at a time when government continues to prioritise agricultural productivity, local food production and investment in the agricultural value chain under its broader development agenda. The new deputy ministers are expected to play a key role in supporting policies aimed at increasing food availability, empowering farmers and reducing reliance on imported food commodities.
Meanwhile, the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) will have a new leadership team following the appointment of Ms. Jenneh Jabati as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Chernor Mamoud Jalloh has been appointed Director General of NASSIT, while Mr. Mohamed Bangura takes up the position of Deputy Director General for Administration and Finance.
NASSIT, which is responsible for administering pensions and social security benefits for workers across Sierra Leone, plays a vital role in the country’s social protection system. The new leadership is expected to focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening public confidence, expanding coverage and ensuring effective management of contributors’ funds.
In the environmental sector, Mr. Ahmid C. Jalloh has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Conservation Trust Fund, an institution that supports conservation initiatives, environmental protection and climate-related programmes.
The latest appointments represent one of the significant changes to leadership positions within government institutions, with attention now shifting to the nominees’ confirmation process and their ability to deliver on the responsibilities assigned to them.
Observers say the success of the new leadership teams, particularly in agriculture, finance and social security, will be closely monitored as these sectors remain directly connected to economic growth, food security and the welfare of citizens.
