Masterclass Training…

98 Graduate At Spark Media

Spark Media has celebrated the graduation of 98 participants from across the country from its intensive media masterclass programme during a ceremony held on Saturday, 20 June 2026 at the Miatta Conference Centre, in Freetown

The training programme, which started with 150 participants, focused on practical skills in videography, photography, web design and graphic design. After weeks of learning and hands-on work, 98 participants successfully completed the course and received certification. The training was led by lead facilitators; Benjamin Thoronka for the photography and  Emmanuel A J Cole for the videography.

The masterclass was a free youth-led training programme designed to empower young people with digital storytelling skills. It lasted for one month and provided practical, hands-on training to help participants gain real experience in media production. The event was attended by government leaders, private institutions, family members and partners.

Keynote Speaker, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Madam Kenyeh Barlay, congratulated the graduates, encouraging them to make good use of the skills.

“I would like to thank Spark Media and their partners for empowering these young people “ she said.

Solomon J Kekura, programme Coordinator, said “the journey has been challenging but rewarding, the graduates showed strong commitment, resilience and growth throughout the programme.”

The graduation ceremony highlighted not only academic success, but also real investment in the future of the participants. Outstanding students were recognised with professional tools to help them begin their careers. The Best Videographer and Best Photographer each received a complete camera kit, while the Best Graphic Designer was awarded a brand-new laptop.

Spark Media said these awards are meant to support graduates as they start their professional journey, build businesses and create opportunities within their communities.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Issadin Kamara, said:

“We are humbled and honoured to certify 98 graduates from the Spark Media Masterclass. At Spark Media, our goal has always been to empower young people to be able to tell compelling stories. We want to thank Joe L. Aruna for the support. We also want to thank Sallu Kamuskay from Salone Messenger for always being with us.”

The organisation also expressed appreciation to its partners, facilitators and supporters who contributed to the success of the programme. The masterclass was funded by Spark Media with support from Hotacon.

The ceremony marked the beginning of new career paths for the graduates, many of whom are expected to contribute to the growing media and creative industry in Sierra Leone.

Spark Media congratulated all members of the Class of 2026, encouraging them to use their skills to tell impactful stories and create change in society.

“This is just the beginning,” organisers said, as they urged the graduates to make use of the knowledge and tools gained during the programme.
