Sierra Leonean journalist, Mackie Muctarr Jalloh, has once again been recognized for the second consecutive year by the Merck Foundation Africa Media Recognition Awards “More Than a Mother.”

Jalloh, known for his dedication to ethical journalism and public interest reporting, emerged as the second-best journalist in the Print Media category for West Africa in 2025. Ghana claimed first place, while Nigeria secured third, making Sierra Leone’s presence on the podium a significant achievement.
The Merck Foundation Awards are an annual celebration of outstanding journalism across Africa, spotlighting media professionals whose work raises awareness on pressing social issues and drives positive change.
For Jalloh, the recognition is more than just an accolade.
“My work is inspired by a vision of being a change maker and impacting lives in Sierra Leone and beyond,” he said.
This marks the second year in a row that Jalloh has been honoured, cementing his reputation as one of Sierra Leone’s leading voices in print journalism. His consistent excellence underscores the growing influence of Sierra Leonean media professionals on the continental stage.
