State House, Freetown, Friday, 28 November 2025 – The Chief Executive Officer of Sonatel Group, Mr. Brelotte BA, has reaffirmed the Group’s long-term commitment to Sierra Leone’s digital transformation, announcing accelerated plans to expand 4G coverage nationwide while sustaining major investments in telecommunications infrastructure. He made this commitment during a courtesy call on His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio at State House.


Introducing the delegation, Orange Sierra Leone CEO, Mr. Sekou Amadou Bah, described the Sonatel Chief Executive Officer as a highly accomplished telecommunications executive with more than 24 years of experience across the Sonatel and Orange networks in Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea. “He brings deep regional expertise and a strong drive to strengthen our footprint and service quality in Sierra Leone,” Mr. Bah noted.
Mr. Brelotte BA praised Sierra Leone as an important partner within the Sonatel ecosystem and highlighted the Group’s strategic focus on expanding high-speed mobile connectivity to support national development priorities. “Orange Sierra Leone currently delivers 80 percent of 4G services across the country,” he said. “We are accelerating efforts to extend 4G coverage even further, ensuring more communities gain access to fast, reliable mobile internet. Our investments will continue to focus on building robust infrastructure capable of supporting the country’s digital ambitions.”


He added that Sonatel remains committed to innovation and expanding digital inclusion, revealing that Orange Sierra Leone has already established seven digital schools nationwide and plans to scale up additional technology-driven initiatives. Mr. BA thanked President Bio for his consistent support and for fostering an enabling environment for telecoms investment.
President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the Sonatel CEO and commended Orange Sierra Leone for its critical role in supporting Sierra Leone’s digital and economic progress. “Telecommunications is an engine of development. Without reliable and affordable communication services, we cannot remain competitive,” the President said. “Expanding 4G across the country is essential, and we appreciate your ongoing investment in infrastructure.”


He also recognized the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, particularly the construction of digital schools, stating that such initiatives align with the government’s broader goals of improving access to technology and education.
“We understand this is an investment environment, and we welcome partners who are committed to long-term growth,” President Bio added. “Enhanced 4G coverage and stronger infrastructure will bring us closer to participating fully in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
