Project Coordinator’s Sacking Entangled in Controversy

By Thaimu Thullah

In a surprising and contentious development, Mr. Ambrose Sesay, the former Project Coordinator of FEPS, has publicly challenged his dismissal by posting across social media that he is still in charge and has not been sacked. His bold claims, which he shared widely, seem to be a display of his perceived pomposity and a bid to assert authority, despite official directives to the contrary.

The situation took a rapid turn when the matter reached the corridors of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Acting swiftly, officials stormed the Free Education Secretariat (FEPS) office in Regent to investigate the claims and clarify the situation. Sources close to the incident reveal that Mr. Sesay, along with Mr. Mohamed Kallon, had been tipped off about the pending action earlier that morning, and avoided the office. It is alleged that the only person left to face the inquiry was the Financial Specialist, who has now become the scapegoat in this episode.

This behavior by Mr. Sesay is not seen as an isolated incident. Reports indicate that he often relies heavily on the support of his brother-in-law to influence his actions. However, many in the public and oversight bodies emphasize that such conduct is unacceptable and that no individual is above the law.

Since February 2025, a forensic audit conducted by World Bank auditors has revealed troubling findings. The report strongly advised the removal of both Mr. Sesay and the Financial Specialist due to misappropriation of funds and the failure to convene any steering committee meetings during the project’s duration. The auditors also recommended that any misappropriated funds be reimbursed to the donor.

Currently, the public remains eager to see how authorities will handle this sensitive issue. Since the project’s inception, questions have been raised about transparency and accountability. The fact that Mr. Sesay is now also involved in efforts to have the government refund a large sum of money to the World Bank due to misappropriation, highlights the gravity of the situation.
