Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Head of the Office of National Security (ONS) has issued a strong call for calm, unity, and patience among Sierra Leoneans as the government continues to address the current situation in Yenga. Speaking as the lead figure in the country’s security sector, the ONS Boss emphasized that peace and stability remain the top priorities of the government.

Yenga, a border town claimed by both Sierra Leone and Guinea, has recently drawn renewed attention due to rising tensions. The ONS Boss reassured the public that the government is fully engaged with the Guinean authorities, ECOWAS, and the United Nations to ensure a peaceful resolution.

“The government remains committed to ensuring that Yenga, which rightfully belongs to Sierra Leone, is peacefully returned to full Sierra Leonean control,” the ONS Boss stated. “We are taking all necessary measures to bring the situation under control.”

Efforts are ongoing to facilitate the safe return of affected residents to their communities. The ONS Boss expressed deep concern for the current hardships faced by Sierra Leoneans in the Yenga area and called on them to remain patient and hopeful.

“President Julius Maada Bio is doing everything possible to bring this matter to a peaceful conclusion,” the ONS Boss affirmed, noting that top security officials, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), are actively coordinating with all parties involved.

In addressing the public, the ONS Boss warned against the spread of misinformation, commonly referred to as “bush radio,” and urged citizens to rely solely on verified updates from the Ministry of Information and official government channels.

“Security is under control,” he stressed. “We urge every Sierra Leonean to remain focused and avoid engaging in fake news or propaganda that could undermine the peace process. The government is working tirelessly to maintain harmony between Sierra Leone and Guinea.”

The ONS Boss concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring peace for all citizens.
