KARENE DISTRICT IN LIMBO

The government of President Bio has left thousands of residents and travellers in limbo in Karene District, as the collapse of the Matehun Bridge along the Makeni–Kamakwie Highway continues to disrupt movement and economic activities in the area.

Residents are crying for help, but their situation appears to have been neglected, leaving them in what feels like a no-man’s-land. The bridge collapsed about three years ago, following structural failures and flooding, and is yet to be properly reconstructed.

The situation has continued to deteriorate, severely affecting the natives and residents of the district and leaving many people frustrated, upset, and without hope. The hardship faced by travellers is becoming increasingly alarming. Drivers are struggling to cross the damaged bridge, while passengers are often forced to rely on motorcycles or pay local youths to help them navigate the dangerous and damaged section.

As a result, transportation fares have tripled, placing an additional burden on the Natives.

The lack of a proper vehicular route has also driven up the prices of essential goods, while local traders continue to suffer from reduced access to markets and increased transportation costs.

The district has been neglected by this administration.

The people are crying out for help and demanding answers from the Bio government. Are we not part of the Bio government? Are we not part of this country? Why is Karene being neglected? Who is going to solve our problems, and when will the government listen to our concerns? Karene District has not benefited from the flagship programs of the Bio government.

Local residents and travellers continue to urge the government to look into the situation.
