State Counsel, Yusuf Isaac Sesay, told journalists at a news conference that the government of Sierra Leone was able to ensure that Section 21 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which deals with Compulsory Acquisition, was fully applied on the Black Johnson Beach land.
Lawyer Sesay explained that the government took its time to do the right thing, ensuring that even the Public Land Act Cap 166 was also followed. “We ensured that land owners received compensation for the land, and we also allocated other lands to those whose lands fall part of the project for the construction of the Fish Harbour at Black Johnson Beach. Lawyer Kargbo also referenced Section 3(1), which talks on survey reports and planning. He added that on December 9,2021, Parliament ratified the land acquisition for Black Johnson and was signed by President Bio on the 17th January 2022.
Some school of thoughts opined that if what the state Counsel has said at a news conference is anything to go by on Compulsory Acquisition, why has the government not done the same in the case of the Kasafoni Land.
