The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has honoured Joseph Sellu Vanday with a Distinction Award for Innovation, recognising his remarkable contributions and transformative work in public health for the year 2024.
The award, presented by SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasrallah, forms part of the Association’s annual initiative to celebrate individuals whose efforts have significantly impacted Sierra Leonean society across diverse sectors. The recognition underscores Vanday’s pioneering work in innovative approaches to rural healthcare transformation, which has improved access to essential health services in remote communities.


In his address, President Nasrallah highlighted the importance of acknowledging excellence beyond journalism, noting that SLAJ’s awards programme aims to inspire and motivate hardworking citizens who are shaping national development through their dedication and innovation.
“As journalists, we interact with people from all walks of life,” Nasrallah said. “SLAJ initiated this recognition to celebrate individuals whose footprints have become an indelible mark on Sierra Leone’s development. We ensure that every nominee goes through a thorough vetting and background verification process to confirm the authenticity of their work. It is with great honour that I, as National President of SLAJ, present this Distinction Award to Joseph Sellu Vanday for his outstanding role in Innovation and Transformative Rural Healthcare Solutions.”
