FREETOWN, Sierra Leone –
President Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing regional security, economic growth, and integration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during an official visit to Togo.
In a message shared on social media, President Bio announced that he was in Lomé meeting with Togolese President, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.
The two leaders discussed ways to bolster cooperation between their countries and across the wider West African region.
“We are committed to strengthening regional cooperation for heightened security and economic prosperity in our regional bloc,” President Bio wrote, emphasising the importance of unity and collective action among ECOWAS member states.
As the current Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, President Bio pledged to continue working closely with fellow leaders to deepen integration, address shared challenges, and promote stability.
The meeting comes at a time when ECOWAS faces pressing issues, including political instability in some member states, security threats, and the need for greater economic collaboration.
President Bio’s visit signals Sierra Leone’s active role in shaping the future of the regional body.
