Police Declares Augustine kaiyo koroma Wanted
Police sources say that one Augustine Kaiyo Koroma, residing at Hastings, Fula Town community, has been declared wanted in respect of publication on social described as incendiary, calculated to tarnish the image of the government.
According to police sources, Augustine Kaiyo Koroma is said to have made several inflammatory remarks about the government, which in their view, has the potential to invite the public against the government, and posted same on various social media handles. This, they maintain, is contrary to the provisions of the Cyber Crime Act.
Sources at Hastings disclosed that some armed security forces raided the residence of Augustine Kaiyo Koroma, but he was nowhere to be found, and have threatened to return for him. They furthered that several raids were made on the residence by the security forces in the company of ruling party youths. And that they issued threats to residents in the area not to harbor him or face the wrath of the police. They maintained that single in July 2024, when Augustine Kaiyo Koroma left the house, he not been seen nor was there any information about his whereabouts.
Some residents maintained that the Cyber Crime law was introduced to discourage criticism of the government, and this infringes on freedom of speech right of citizens guaranteed in the country’s constitution. In hush manner, many Sierra Leoneans are condemning the introduction of that law, claiming that it is designed to target criticism of the negative activities of the government that has plunged the country into its current economic state.
Political commentators and Democracy activists have also condemned this law, but to no avail.
However, as we go to press the whereabouts of Augustine Kaiyo Koroma are still unknown and the search for his arrest continues unabated, with ruling party youths playing a vital role in the search.
