Musa Tarawally bemoans satanic –oath swearing in the SLPP

Alhaji Musa Tarawally, a leading aspirant in the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearer race, has raised a grave alarm over what he describes as the growing influence of juju and occult-linked oath-taking practices within the SLPP, warning that such acts pose a serious threat to democracy, morality, and social cohesion.

In a statement that has ignited public debate, Tarawally condemned what he termed “satanic and juju-driven political oaths,” alleging that vulnerable citizens—already crushed by economic hardship—are being coerced, manipulated, and intimidated into participating in ritualistic political pledges aimed at advancing personal ambitions in the flagbearer contest.

He claimed that poor and defenceless citizens are being deliberately targeted, particularly in parts of the Eastern Region, including Kenema and Kailahun Districts, where he alleges that individuals are being pressured into oath-taking ceremonies rooted in fear, superstition, and political exploitation.

“Our people are poor, vulnerable, and politically abused,” Tarawally said, insisting that the alleged practices amount to political bondage and represent a dangerous abuse of power within the ruling party.

Popularly known by his slogan “Allah Is One,” Tarawally framed the issue as not merely an internal party matter but a national moral crisis, accusing those behind the alleged juju practices of weaponising citizens’ suffering for selfish political gain. He warned that such actions could deepen internal divisions within the SLPP, erode public trust, and inflame political tensions.

In a strongly worded religious appeal, Tarawally expressed confidence that divine justice would prevail, declaring that those exploiting citizens through occult and coercive political tactics would face consequences beyond earthly accountability.

“God Almighty will save and free our people from this treacherous bondage,” he said, issuing what many observers described as a prophetic warning. “I speak with the power of the Almighty Allah/God, and the nation will soon witness His might.”

His remarks come amid intensifying manoeuvring within the SLPP as aspirants and power blocs position themselves ahead of the party’s flagbearer selection. Political analysts say Tarawally’s intervention introduces a volatile mix of religion, ethics, juju allegations, and human rights into the internal contest, significantly raising the stakes.

The allegations are expected to spark heated debate within the SLPP and the wider public, particularly around issues of political accountability, the protection of vulnerable citizens, and the moral credibility of those seeking to lead the party and the country.

As of the time of publication, the SLPP leadership and other key party figures have not issued any official response to the serious claims raised by the flagbearer aspirant.
