Tourism Minister Urges Residents To Patronize Tourist sites

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) under the leardership of Mrs Nabeela Tunis, is actively implementing her development initiative in promoting Tourism for sustainble economic growth under the Tourism for  all Campaign.

Minister Nabeela Tunis,  in a statement, disclosed that the  theme for this year’s Celebration is “Travel and Hospitality”

She added that Sierra Leone now has a lot of touristic attraction sites to explore, like climbing the Loma Mountains or bonding with our National Animal, the Chimpanzee, at the Tacugama Sanctuary.

She further called on both local and international tourists to take a boat ride at the Estuary Resort, John Obey, in the Western Rural District or simply enjoy nature at Bush Garden in the Bo District, and the Tariqs Resort in Lungi, adding that the  beaches also offer a breathtaking experience; “so whether you’re in Sulima or Sherbro, make sure you revel in the beauty of our coastline and experience Sierra Leone’s rich culture and their   various restaurants, eatery hangouts and barbecue stands, across the country.”

She further maintained that Sierra Leone has a rich history to reflect, on such as the National Museum, the Cotton Tree, the National Railway Museum in Cline Town, and the Peace Museum at the Special Court. “You may want to pass by Big Markit in Freetown as well to purchase some Kontri Clothes, Gara, and Ronkos – all original patterns and products of Sierra Leone.

Minister Nabeela also maintained that people should foster positive connections with places and people in Sierra Leone, having some leisure time. “Don’t let the month end without visiting somewhere, and please share your story to inspire others,” she implored.

In the 2023 Global Peace Index, Sierra Leone is ranked third in Sub-Saharan Africa and forty-seventh globally as a peaceful nation.

”Our nation topped the charts as the #1 country in the world for the highest proportion of people (83%), who helped someone they did not know, and secured the #3 spot for the top countries to volunteer.

”Additionally, Sierra Leone was recognized as the 7th most generous country in the world in the most recent

World Giving Index (2022).”
