Mikashbox and ICONA Launch Landmark Partnership to Transform Electronics Access in Sierra Leone

In a transformative move for consumer finance in Sierra Leone, Mikashbox, ICONA, and Peace of Mind Ventures officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the ICONA Headquarters in Freetown. This strategic collaboration is designed to democratize access to high-quality electronics and solar products, shifting the market focus from a privileged few to the broader population through an innovative “pay bit by bit” model. By leveraging Mikashbox’s digital financial platform and ICONA’s extensive nationwide retail footprint, the partnership aims to bridge the gap between financial exclusion and the aspiration of owning life-improving technology.

During the signing ceremony, ICONA Marketing Manager Kai emphasized that the initiative is rooted in the interest of all Sierra Leoneans, particularly the underprivileged who have historically been sidelined by upfront payment requirements. He noted that ICONA’s widespread presence across the country provides a powerful engine for accessibility, turning the vision of small, incremental savings into a reality for rural and urban communities alike. This sentiment was echoed by ICONA Country Director Jayesh Pardhi, who highlighted the practical challenges of saving at home. He remarked that the structured “small, small” saving facility through Mikashbox ensures that families can finally achieve major purchases, such as refrigerators or solar packages, without their funds being diverted by daily household pressures.

Salton Massally, CEO and Founder of Mikashbox, expressed his admiration for ICONA’s inclusive market approach, noting that the partnership is as much about financial empowerment as it is about retail. Massally detailed how the platform allows users to earn interest on their savings and build vital credit scores through consistent payments, providing a gateway to broader financial services. Business Development Manager Joshua Kanu further stressed that the partnership is a direct strike against financial exclusion, inviting market women and local communities to utilize the service. He reaffirmed ICONA’s commitment to joint marketing efforts that will ensure the brand and its flexible payment options reach even the most remote provinces of the country.

Addressing the technical and security aspects of the collaboration, Kelvin Logan, Customer Success Lead at Mikashbox, reassured the public that the platform is fully regulated by the Bank of Sierra Leone. By integrating with major providers like Orange Money, Afri Money, and Ecobank, Mikashbox ensures that user funds are held securely within the normal banking system while offering the convenience of mobile transactions. Logan framed the initiative as a step toward a cashless society that simplifies how people save and shop. As the ceremony concluded, the collective leadership envisioned a future where even small-scale market traders can own smart TVs and modern appliances, signaling a new era where financial discipline and collaborative innovation give every Sierra Leonean the power to improve their standard of living.
