Muslims galvanise support for Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally
Chiefdom Imams, as well as district and party Imams, on Friday night declared their support behind Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally, a presidential aspirant under the Sierra Leone People’s Party, ahead of the country’s 2028 election. Tarawally, who hailed from Moyamba District, is highly recognized in the country as an Islamic man who believes in relationships. On the night of Friday, March 13, 2026, Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally and his entourage from Freetown joined Imams from Bo, Bonthe, Pujehun, and Moyamba Districts to participate in what is recognized as ‘Iftar’ (Islamic way of breaking fast). The three-hour event was highly witnessed and graced by religious leaders alongside party supporters, with special prayers offered for the SLPP strongman to succeed, as he has major plans for Sierra Leone. In their presentations, all of the speakers said good things about Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally and his support for Islam and the Muslim community. They expressed how Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally has, over the years, been very supportive to the Muslims with the usual provisions of bags of rice, cows, and cash in all chiefdoms. They maintained that the likes of Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally in Sierra Leone are second to none, as he is a man they believe in.

Delivering a keynote address, Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally started with humble greetings and stated that his support for Islam started years back in his community. Tarawally added that, “I started this mission from my community, and it got extended to the constituency and today nationwide,” which he said demonstrates the love he has for Islam and the Muslim community. “Let us remember the likes of the late Alhaji Y. D. and President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. These were people who played a significant role in the establishment of the Sierra Leone Islamic Imam Council. Therefore, we must not forget to always remember those who have played significant roles for the solid foundation of Islam in the country. If I become president of this nation after President Bio, I will dedicate a day to every district during the Holy Month of Ramadan. During this period, I will ensure I dine and interact with Muslims throughout the holy month, and I will also declare a national day of prayers for our country.
I will also ensure I extend this same opportunity to the Christians for them to always feel belong as I am a man who believes in both Islam and Christianity. I have played my part in so many areas towards the development of Islam. Recently, under the Ummah Welfare Fund Foundation, of which I am a strategic partner, we organized Iftar for over 65,000 children, and we have constructed over 300 masjids countrywide,” he said. Hon Alhaji Musa Tarawally added that because of the love he has for Islam, he also spearheaded a project that caters for the wellbeing of Imams in the country by which some Imams are being paid and also given some facilities. If we fail to support and empower our imams, it means we are not doing justice to them, he said. Our Imams are going through so many challenges and difficulties but yet they always ensure they serve us within their rights and responsibilities as religious leaders. This, Tarawally, said, was a clear and tangible reason for us to see in supporting them, hence the need why he is hell-bent on making the necessary provisions for them, even though not much.
