Ghana’s Big Six

The “Big Six” refers to six leaders of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a political party in colonial Ghana, who played significant roles in Ghana’s struggle for independence from British colonial rule.

The Big Six are Kwame Nkrumah, J.B. Danquah, Edward Akufo-Addo, Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, and William Ofori Atta.

They led various political and social movements, organized protests, and advocated for self-rule.

Kwame Nkrumah, in particular, emerged as the foremost leader and Ghana’s first Prime Minister and later President upon independence in 1957.

The Big Six are revered in Ghanaian history for their pivotal roles in achieving independence and laying the groundwork for the nation’s development.
