On Friday, 24th November 2023, Genie En Francais launched and organized a National French Quiz Competition and Dinner at the Sierra Palms Resort (at the pool side), Aberdeen Beach Road, Freetown.
Speaking at the Event, the CEO of Genie En Francais, Dennis Rhodes, mentioned that he would take this opportunity to introduce their company. Genie En Francais is a radio Television and online program, in which students representing their schools and institutions throughout Sierra Leone participate in Trivia tournament.
As Genie En Francais is a non-profitable organization establish under the law of Sierra Leone that works in the domain of french language to improve the quality and learning. Genie En Francais, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, will be coming up with their first ever inter-School National French Quiz Competition, to be held in March 2024, but because of the Ramadan, they will shift it to April 2024 in Freetown.
Meanwhile today is the official Launching of the company along with a National French Quiz Competition and Dinner. As they are striving to educate and promote french language in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institution. They also aimed at promoting academic excellence, healthy competition among students, to provide a platform for them to showcase their knowledge and creative thinking skills and to promote the French culture and civilization in Sierra Leone. The questions in the competition will cover a wide range of topics, including history, science, literature, current affairs and more. Therefore, a mock French Quiz Slam competition respectively will form the climax of the launching and dinner tonight.
Madam Jestina Taylor, Chairperson of the program, mentioned that they are not there to only do press launching, but rather showcase some of the things they would be banking on in breaking language barriers, as that is their main aim.
She further introduced the judges of the competition, delegates, Natasha Beckley, and other important personnel, including representative from the Basic Senior Secondary Education, Mr Demba Kamalo.
Mr. Kamalo mentioned that this is a good initiative, and are happy to work hand in hand with them to ensure that Sierra Leonean children are able to compete, and to ensure that bi-lingual education becomes compulsory in schools.
The first set of Slams School candidates, include 4 Schools across the country, which includes Ayoub international, Methodist Girls High School, Royal Becklyn and Billingual high school.
The Program ended with presentation of prizes for the winners and Dinner was served climaxing the occasion.
